lg_mkshift

Name

lg_mkshift -- Create a logbook shift

Synopsis

lg_mkshift [shift-name]

DESCRIPTION

Shifts are collections of people. Shifs are intended to capture the concept that when experiment data taking is in progress, data taking time is normally divided in time blocks and each time block is manned by some subset of the people involved in data taking. When data taking state changes occur (e.g. a run starts), that state change is associated with the shift that was on duty at the time.

Creates a new shift. If the shift-name command parameter is created, an empty shift with that name is created. If the shift-name is not provided, lg_mkshift switches to GUI mode and displays a dialog that allows you to both create a shift and stock it with members. See the tutorial information on the logbook for a description of this dialog and how to use it.

Warning

Once data taking has begun, shift membership should not be modified. This is because state changes are associated with a shift name not with the collection of people that are members of that shift at the time of the state change. Therefor editing shift members for a shift associated with a state change will also edit the set of people associated with that state change.
